Frequently Asked Questions.

  • I founded The Dad Insight to offer personalized coaching for dads who want to be better parents, as well as any individual on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth.

Whether you're a dad, a leader, or simply someone seeking greater self-awareness, my coaching is tailored to meet your needs.

My approach goes beyond traditional coaching—I help you explore who you are, what you believe to be true, and how you show up in the world. From this foundation of self-awareness, we create opportunities for you to accelerate your transformation, aligning your personal and professional life with the parent and person you aspire to be.

Using somatic and neuro-linguistic practices, we explore the beliefs and behaviors that stand in the way of your goals. Through inner work, I help you break through barriers and chart a path forward that is both authentic and fulfilling.

As you move through this process, you’ll cultivate greater presence, compassion, and impact in your relationships, workplace, and community—empowering you to parent and lead with confidence and purpose.

  • Absolutely! While The Dad Insight is primarily focused on dads, I also offer personalized leadership coaching for seasoned and emerging professionals, as well as support for individuals on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. If you're seeking greater self-awareness and personal development, my coaching is tailored to meet your needs.

  • The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.”

I define it as working together to help you be your best self. The coaching relationship provides a structured, yet flexible, space for individuals (dads) to explore their strengths, challenges, and aspirations while developing strategies to lead/parent with greater confidence, clarity, and impact.

  • Coaching and psychotherapy both support personal growth, but they differ in focus, approach, and outcomes.

Coaching is future-oriented, actionable, and goal-driven with a focus on strengths, behaviors, and mindset shifts. Approaches use tools like like somatic practices, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), mindset reframing, and accountability structures. Coaching outcomes enhance personal or professional impact, leadership, and self-awareness. Coaches are not government regulated and often obtain certifications, but do not diagnose or treat illnesses.

Psychotherapists are past- and present-oriented to address emotional, psychological, or behavioral challenges. Therapy helps with mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, or trauma through various modalities - cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, or EMDR. Outcomes heal past-wounds, improve mental health, and foster emotional well-being. Therapists are highly regulated and licensed to diagnose and treat psychological conditions and emotional distress.

  • Somatic coaching is a holistic approach that integrates the mind and body to facilitate deep personal growth and transformation. Unlike traditional coaching, which often focuses on cognitive strategies, somatic coaching emphasizes embodied awareness—helping individuals recognize how thoughts, emotions, and past experiences manifest physically.

By working with breath, movement, posture, and sensation, clients develop a greater connection to their bodies, unlocking patterns that may be limiting their potential. This approach activates the nervous system’s ability to regulate stress, build resilience, and support lasting behavioral shifts.

Somatic coaching is particularly effective for overcoming challenges like stress, leadership presence, confidence, and emotional regulation. By aligning physical and mental states, individuals can cultivate greater self-awareness, make more intentional choices, and foster deeper connections in both personal and professional settings. Ultimately, this practice empowers individuals to embody the changes they seek, leading to authentic and sustainable transformation.

  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), developed in the 1970s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, is a powerful approach that explores the connection between neurological processes, language, and behavioral patterns. It provides a framework for understanding and reshaping thoughts, communication, and behaviors to achieve specific goals.

At its core, NLP recognizes how language shapes perception and influences actions. By leveraging techniques such as anchoring, reframing, and modeling, individuals can enhance self-awareness, boost confidence, and refine communication skills to drive meaningful change. A key component of NLP involves activating the Reticular Activating System (RAS)—the brain’s filter for focus and intention, which helps individuals bring mindfulness to their desired transformations.

Through well-formed outcomes and strategic interventions, NLP empowers individuals to break limiting patterns and adopt new, more effective ways of thinking and interacting with the world.

  • A listening partner is simply that. The partner listens while the other person is free to talk about whatever is on their mind. There are no questions, no suggestions, and no judgment. With a listening partner, you know you have someone who is listening deeply and being present with you. These are the times when you just want to be heard and held. Listening partner sessions can naturally evolve into coaching where coaching techniques can help you take action and move forward.

  • Yes, I’m available to meet via Zoom. I also have office space in Richmond, VA for in-person sessions.

  • I provide individual coaching for those seeking greater awareness, deeper understanding, and change in their lives. While I primarily support dads, I work with clients from all walks of life. See my full listing of services and fees for additional details.

  • Flat rate á la carte sessions are billed immediately after each session. For sessions packages, there is no refund after purchase. If your circumstances change, we can discuss delaying the start of your package based on your needs.

For your scheduled sessions, you must cancel/reschedule no later than 24 hours prior to the start of the session to avoid being charged for the session.

  • All coaching sessions are one hour, a full 60-minutes, unless otherwise agreed upon prior to starting. You can decide the frequency of meeting. Typically, we would meet weekly or every other week. For coaching packages, the sessions must be used within the specified number of weeks/months, so forward planning is important. If there is desire to meet more often than weekly, we can discuss what that would look it.

  • Coaching is action-oriented, so we’ll use each session to explore and reflect on a topic or issue that is important to you that day. Often themes and priorities will carry over from session to session, which is alright and a great way to engage on bigger work. I’ll use deep listening to understand where you are and what’s coming up for you. This helps me offer you coaching techniques (e.g., somatic, neuro-linguistic programming) to create deeper meaning and value for you. Towards the end of the session, we’ll summarize the session together and create actionable next steps for you.

  • This one is easy! Reach out to let me know you are interested, and I’ll contact you to schedule a free 30-minute Dad Check-In.

During our first call, we will learn a bit about each other while also discussing what coaching is and is not. I will share about my approach and philosophy. And there will be plenty of time for you to ask questions.

After our check-in, if it feels like a good fit for both of us, we’ll discuss scheduling your first session and how you would like to proceed with á la carte or a coaching package.

  • This is a great question! For those exploring coaching (or me as a coach) or wanting to tackle one specific time sensitive issue, á la carte is a great way to make a minimal investment of your time and money. An á la carte will let you know if you want to continue coaching and explore making greater change in your life.

For those with bigger questions or desires to explore an often ambiguous feeling of just wanting things to be better, a coaching package gives you multiple months of support and allows us to work through various aspects that you want to explore. In these packages, we create a more substantial connection that can lead to even greater growth for you.

  • The coaching process works best when we commit to and follow through on meeting regularly. However, we are parents and we do have lives outside coaching, so occasionally things will come up. If you need to reschedule, reach out to me as soon as possible. If you miss a session, follow-up with me that day. I am confident we can work through it.

  • I’m like you. A parent. A professional. A friend. And I’m on my own personal journey that allows me to bring perspective, compassion, and empathy to our work together. My path has taken me to yoga, Buddhism, tantra, psychotherapy, Jungian analysis, plant medicine…and the list goes on. My deepest qualification is my lived experience, which I bring with me to every client, every session, and every day.

I do have education and training that inform my practice. I am a graduate of the Academy for Leadership Coaching and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. I also have a Doctorate in Organization Development and Learning from Old Dominion University. Along the way, I have picked up certifications in Situational Leadership (Blanchard), DiSC (Wiley), and Certified Performance Technologist (International Society for Performance Improvement).
